RIFLE SHOOTING.
♦ P. AND T. v. JOHNSONVILLE. Three matches were fired at Johnsonville on Easter Monday between the Johnsonville Rifles and Post and Telegraph Rifles. The Post and Telegraph Rifles (under Lieut. BoJton) were met at Johnsonville by Lieut. Merrielees (in charge of the Johnsonville riflo team). Lunch was provided .by Col. -Sergeant Bould, and afternoon tea was served after the shooting ended. Shooting commenced at 1 p.m., when the first range of a. 200yd9 and 500 yds ten shots match was completed, the Johnsonville Rifles leading by 6 points. Next came two "service" matches, both being won by Johnsonville — a "Chattie" match (Johnsonville 7 hits, P. and T. 3 hits), and j "running man," distance unknown and I varying (Johnsonville 5 hits, P. and T. 4 hits). After this followed the 500 yds of the- first match. This proved to be very interesting, being fought out to th» last round by the junior shots of each team. Lance-Corporal Washington made 32. and Private Hunt finished splendidly with three "bulls," making a creditable 41, thus winning the match for P. and T., with a narrow margin of three points. Swan 37 21 — 58 326 293 624 HIGHLANDERS AT TINUI. The Wellington Highlanders Rifle team returned last night from an Easter holiday at Tinui. They went up on Good Friday, arriving at Tinui that night. On Saturday they fired a shooting match with the Tinui Rifle Clnb, winning by 462 pointc to 442. In the evening they gave a concert in ,the Tiniri Hall in aid of the local school. Tho entertainment proved highly successful, the school benefiting thereby fto the amount of £6 11s 6d. An enjoyable dance followed. Church parade was the OTder of Sunday morning, while a cricket match was played in the afternoon with the local club, who won by 20 runs — 75 to 55. On Monday the 'Highlanders came clown to Masterton, and took part in a military tournament there, winning the bugle competition and coming second in the tent-pitching competition. During their stay at Tinui the visitors were very hospitably entertained by Lieut. Page, late of Wellington.
