SAILING.
There wero two sailing handicap races on Saturday afternoon. A light breeze from the south carried the boats along under full sail. Results are appended. In the race by the Te Aro Sailing Club for a trophy presented by Mr. F. Cooke there were eight competitors. The finishing times, with handicaps, were as follow : — lehmael (9min), 4h' 41min, 1 ; Rambler (3min), 4h 43min, 2; Lotus (6min), 4h 44min, 3. Also started — Winifred (14min), 4h 46min) ; Rival (lOmin), 4h £Bmin; Red Wing (7min), 4h 49min ; Nan (scratch), 4h 51min ; Beleeta (7min), 4h 57min. A race over the large course was held by the Thorndon Dinghy Sailing Club for a trophy presented by Messrs. Walker and Hall, of Sheffield. The following are tho finishing times, with handicaps, of the four starters: — Rona (15min), 4h 32min, 1; Vera (6min), 4h 34min 2; Blowfly (3min), 4h 35min, 3. Also started— Zel (scratch), 4h 35min 30sec. The Heretaunga Boating Club got off the first of its series of club handicaps, for which there wore eight entrants. All the boats were well away at the start, but the prevailing breeze was afc times very light. While off Somes Island the Waiwetu was well in the lead, with Gil Bias a quarter of a milo astern, and tho Runa and other competitors still further behind. The positions, however, we're not maintained throughout the race, the first three boats finishing as followB:— Runa (Messrs. Bittle and M'Donald), 3min handicap, time lh 24min 22soc ; Gil Bias (Mr. Colquhoun), smin handicap, time lh 26min 40see ; Waiwetu, 9min handicap, time lh 26min 45sec.
