MINING NEWS. NEW ZEALAND CROWN MINES. CRUSHING RESUMED,

[BZ TELEGEAPH — SPECIAt TO THE POST.] WAiHI, This Day. Crushing has been resu\med at the New Zealand Crown Mines. Ktyrangahake. Afc present, the battery is only running one shift, but, as development^ work in, the deeper areas of the mine (\^hfch are now thoroughly drained) will be pushed on more vigorously after the holidays, and the underground staff increased. It is anticipated that an increased' quantity of ore will be sent to the mJU' early • next year. Seen by your representative, the mine superintendent (Mr. F. EL W. Daw) expressed himself well pleased with the results disclosed since the uesumption of work in the mine, and sanguine of the future. The quartz going to the mill is being won from the main reef below No. 5 level and from the back o£ Slos. 5 and 4 levels. ' At the bottom workings the lode averages about 4ft in width, and has been opened up for a length of about 230 ft, of which 128 ft is high-grade ore. A winze, 12ft long by 6ft wide, is following, the lode from No. 5 level, and as I operations are being carried on in virgin country, developments here will be followed with interest. The whole of the quartz coming from the mine gives an average value of upwards of £6 per ton, some of the assay results going as high as £40. The stone shows free gold. Tha fine new electrical plant for unwatering the mine to greater depth and for haulage purposes (supplied to "designs prepared by the superintendent) has been installed, and an inspection showed that the scheme is most complete, making for high efficiency combined with economy. The installation is of a most permanent character and thoioughly up-to-clate in every detail. THE TALISMAN. '. The pressure of water in the shaft below N,o. 13 level in the Talisman Mine has eased off somewhat during the past few days, and the pumps are now handling about 30,000 gallons of water per hour. The work of advancing the.xsouth face at No. 13 level has not yet been, resumed, and beyond the fact that the -last vein at this level is not looking as- well as was the case some distance back from the present face, there is no change to report from development 1 works 'in progress underground.
