COURT CASES.

AN UNRULY INEBRIATE. On Saturday night James Cox, alias Burke, t was ordered out of the Empire Hotel. When he returned he was taken into custody, resulting in two charges, viz., drnnkenness and refusing to leave licensed premises, being preferred against him in the S.M. Court to-day. JNothing detrimental, besides these two offences, was known against accused, •who, it was said, had recently arrived from the West Coast. For drunkenness he was convicted and discharged, and for the second offence a fine of 20s, with costs 6s, was inflicted. The option was fixed at forty-eight hours' imprisonment. ALLEGED STEALING. Geo. White, alias Williams, who was charged with stealing- a copper boiler, valued at 12s 6d, the property of Fabian Best, was remanded till Friday. OTHER CHARGES. Two inebriates^ — Michael Keating and Terence M'Aleer — were both fined 10s, in default forty-eight hours' imprisonment. Two other individuals, also charged with drunkenness, were also dealt with. One was convicted and discharged, and the second offender was fined 53, the option being twenty-four heirs' imprisonment. A woman named Mary Louisa Hartnell, pleaded not guilty to a charge of * importuning. The magistrate held that the evidence was against her, and that she must be convicted. Accused was remanded for sentence till Wednesday. Mr. P. W. Jackson appeared for the defence- - A young woman named Georginn, Porrett, a domestic servant, was charged st€aling a pair of boots, valued at ss, the property of Violet Monkhouse. It was stated that 'accused stole the boots from the house she was employe^ in. She was convicted and ordered to comC'Up for sentence when called upon. James Scott, for travelling on the railway .between Wollington and Ng^aio, on v ticket wihich had expired, was fined 53, with costs 15s. MAINTENANCE.
