The Federal Senate practically strangled the Northern Territory Acceptance Bill. The stumbling block" was the construction of a railway. j\h\ Deakin, Prime Minister, promised* to use his influence to prevent the BiU being wholly lost, even during this session. He hoped it would not be long before the territory was taken over -by tbe Commonwealth.
