[BX TELEGKAPH SPECIAL TO THE POST.] DUNEDIN, This Day. At the reception given by the cricketers to Mr. 0. G. Macartney, of the" Australian Eleven, Mr. C. it. Smith (president of the Otago Association) said that Mr. Macartney had come to Dunedin to see whetner ho liked the place, and whether he could make his business develop satisfactorily, in which case the probabilities were that he would become a resident amongst them for years .to conic. His heart was in tho game, and he nad undertaken to give them nil the assistance he could while he was here. Mr. Macartney was not a professional coach or cricketer at all, but would do all he could to help them to deyelope the game and bring it to that pitch of perfection it should occupy amongst them. Mr. Macartney, in responding to the toast of his health, said that Mr. Smith had put everything plainly before them. It depended on what happened in the next thros or four months as to his future in New Zealand. Of course, if everything wont all right, and there were good prospects, he did not 6ee anything to stop him from coming back to Dunedin. He had good reasons for going Home next winter, but he supposed he would decide before he went whether he would come back here or not. Nothing would be wanting in, him to help to push cricket ahaad here', and he hoped that all tho matches played this year would result in wins for Otago.
