FESTIVAL OF THE EMPIRE.
A GREAT CRYSTAL PALACE SHOW TO LAST THREE MONTHS. By Telegraph.— Press Association.— Copyright. LONDON, 17th November. Arrangements have been completed for holding a Festival of the Empire at the Crystal Palace next summer. Lord Plymouth is chairman of the council, which includes Lords Avebury, Strathcona, Burnham, and Rothschild. Already £50,000 has been guaranteed towards the expenses of the scheme. Lords Minto (Viceroy of India), Grey (Governor-General of Canada), Plunket (Governor of New Zealand), Selborne (South Africa), and Sir Ralph Williams (Governor of Newfoundland) are members of the Organising Committee for ■the colonies. •It is hoped that two hundred civilians from the colonies will participate in a cycle of pageants of London's history in which there will be fifteen thousand other performers. Grounds are to be devoted to spectacles depicting colonial scenery, colonial industries, harvesting, shearing, timber-getting and mining. There will also be cinematograph and other pictorial illustrations of industries of the different colonies. The festival is to extend over May, June, and July, and tho promoters hope to secure educational results that will help in the consolidation of the Empire. The profits are to' go to the King's Hospital Fund. The newspapers receive the proposal favourably, but some point out that it will provide counter-attractions to the Anglo-Japanese Exhibition.
