COLLISION AT SEA.
FRENCH STEAMER SUNK. OVER A -HUNDRED LIVES LOST. By Telegraph.— l'ress Association.— Copyright, SINGAPORE, 15tb November. A collision, resulting in the loss of many lives, estimated at over one hundred, occurred in the Rhio Straits, between the islands of Tlhio and Batam, near Singapore. The irori screw steamer La Seyne, 2379 tons gross, built in 1870, and owned by the Messageries, Maritimes, col | lided with the steel sciew steamer Onda, 5247 tons gross, built in 1895, and owned by the British India Steam Navigation Company. The Seyne sank in two minutes, precipitating her living freight into waters infested with sharks. The Onda rescued sixty-one persons, and landed them at Singapore. Many o f them were badly mauled by sharks. One hundred* of those on board the French steamer were drowned — seven Europeans and fifty Asiatic passengers, and the captain, five officers, and thirty-eight of the Asiatic crew.
