ATTEMPT TO FIRE A CATHEDRAL.
ANOTHER CHURCH WRECKED. DEMONSTRATIONS IN BELGIUM AND OTHER PLACES. LONDON, 18th October. A mob of Ferrer sympathisers at Pisa, in Northern Italy, attempted to set fire to the ancient cathedral, the great door of which was partially burnt, but the police extinguished the flames and dispersed the mob. The rioters also wrecked the Cruch of Santa Croce, Pisa, overturning the altars and slashing pictures. Attempts were made to wreck churches at Forli and Ancona, in Central Italy. A demonstration at Liege, in Belgium, resulted in the breaking of the windowb of the monastery, convent, and church, while the vestiy was plundered. At Paris a crowd 50,000 strong demonstrated, but the proceedings were peace- | ful owing to the Socialists, who had approached the Premier, M. Briand, hay- ' ing promised themselves to preserve orj der if the police did not interfere. i Demonstrations against the execution I of Ferrer also took place in Germany and Holland.
