BIBLE READING IN SCHOOLS.
♦ 10 THE EDITOB. Sir, — As several Slate school committees in the Wellington distriot aro considering the question of having a thirtyminutes' Bible lesson onco a week in their respective schools undor the Neleon system (whioh has proved suoh a success in Hawkes Bay, Wanganui, Marlborough, Nelson, Inveroargill, and other places), permit me to urge school committees to adopt this clause from- the School Laws of Massachusetts, U.S.A., with a. view of guarding against Bible teaohinff or religious instruction— Bible reading only- is what every parent wants. The clause runs as follows: — "The Bible shall b» read daily in tho schools without any not* or comment, oral or written." If committees insisted on the abovo clause, there would not ba any fear of dogmatio teaching, religiou9 instruction, or Bible teaching; it would be simply Biblo reading, what" every parent wants. Suoh a reading could be easily supervised by the master in the country districts, where olergymen could not reach ti< oonduot tho Bible reading.— l am, etc,,
