m fPBESS ASSOCIATION.] NEW CHURCH CONSECRATED. CHRISTCHURCH, 17th October. The new church of St. Luke the Evangelist (Anglican), replacing the original structure, was consecrated to-day. A. sum ot Detween £1500 and £1600 has been subscribed since the opening of tho new church last Wednesday, thua making possible the conscration services to-day. Archdeacon Aveiili (Bishopelect of Waiapu) preached in the morning. There was a large attendance. EDUCATIONAL. CHRISTCHURCH, 16th October. At a meeting of head teachers and representatives of the Board ->i Education, a proposal to hold an exhibition of school garden produce in June next was discussed. It was decided to hold the show, and a committee was appointed to work out details. Mr. Sutton, aa English seedsman, had offered a shield for competition, to be won by the school obtaining the most points at the show. The Christchurch Club will also give gold and silver medals for competition. DUNEDIN, 16th October. A meeting of. the executive of th« School Committees' Association recently decided to strongly urge that the clauses m the Education Act providing for the retirement of male teacners at the ago of 65 and iemale teachers at 60 be given effect to, and the Act administered as intended by the Legislature. The matter will come before the Education Board next week. A MARATHON. AUCKLAND, 16th October. 0. Reid, who won the Labour Day ( Marathori race (10 miles), has been selected to represent lha Auckland Amateur Athletic Club in the Wellington Marathon. DENTAL EXAMINATION RESULTS. j ri DUNEDIN, 16th October. The following nine candidates, out of fourteen, were successful at tins dental examinations, hel< J here recently : Frank James Anderson (Dunedin), Edgar a. L. Batten (Aahburtonj, William John Blacks (Balclutha), James Alex. M. Cameron (Mataura), Lawrence .Mawson (Christchurch), Barton Gilmore Rosa (Dunedm), Thomas a. E. Sloane (Wellington), James G. Wade (Invercargill), and Alex I. C. Williamson) (Christchurch). The board's next examination will be held on the second Tuesday in December, and will be th» k»t conducted und«r th» old Act.
The opening of the season for the Thorndon Sailing Club, which was to have taken place on Saturday with a race for a trophy presented by Mr Laing, had, on account of adverse windt, to be postponed until next Satur- <
