PRODUCE REPORT.

The Commerce and Tourists' Division has received the following cable from the High Commissioner, dated London. 16th October, 1909: — The mutton market is firm. There i 6 a large speculative demand and pricea have advanced. On account of small shipments expocted, and stock being reduced, the market is temporarily excited. Holders are firm. Canterbury is quoted at 4gd per lb, and North Island at 4id por lb. Similar remarks can be applied to lamb. Canterbury is quoted at 43d per lb ; and North Island, , at 4£d per lb. The beef market is weak. Supplies of River Plate beef are heavy. N.Z. hinds are quoted at 3id per lb, and fores at : 2gd l per lb. The butter market is quiet but firm for best quality only. Australian, this eeason's. is quoted at 116s per cwt; choicest New Zealand, at 118s per cwt; Danish, at 132s per cwt. ; and .Siberian at 107s per cwt. The cheese market is steady, but demand only moderate. New Zealand (a 6mall supply) is quoted at 57s per cwt. . Tho hemp market is steady, and thero is no change in prices. N.Z. good fair on spot por ton, £27 15s: N.Z. fair grade, on spot, per ton £26 15s; fair current Manila on spot, por ton, £26 15s ; October-December shipments— N.Z. good fair, per ton, £27 10s; N.Z. fair grade, £26 10s; Manila fair current, £26 10s Manila output 32,000 bales. It is reported tho American niarkot is firm with more enquiry for Manila. The wool market is quiet but firm.
