EXPLORER CROSS-EXAMINED. STANDS THE TEST SATISFAC.
TORILY. STATEMENTS CORROBORATED. LONDON, 6th September. - The Times special correspondent and Mr. W. T. Stead searchingly cross-ex-amined Dr. Cook in the presence of sixty journalists. The Times and Mr. Stead are entirely satisfied that Dr. Cook is an upright and honest man. The Daily Chronicle's correspondent is sceptical, while the Daily Mail states that the majority of the correspondents came away with a full belief in the explorer's narrative. Dr. Cook stated that the lowest temperature was 83deg below zero Fahrenheit, not centigrade. The latter statement was due to a telegraphic error. The explorer took a hundred photographs, which are still undeveloped. His sextant and practically all his instruments and records were left at Etah, on tho north-west coast of Greenland, for direct shipment to America. After the interview with the journalists, Dr. Cook dined with King Frederick of Denmark and tho Royal Family. Mr. Knud Raasmussen, a well-known Danish Polar explorer, interviewed the Cape York Esquimaux who accompanied Dr. Cook on his northward dash. They corroborate some of Dr. Cook's statements.
