TELEGRAMS. CHARGES OF PERJURY.
[BY TELEGRAPH — SPECIAL TO THE POST.] PALMERSTON N., This Day. Rowland Hayes and William Smith were committed for trial at the Police Court yesterday, on a charge of perjury, prising out of a case heard by the court on 18lh June, when the accused were fined for trespassing on the property of Hugh Akers, while duck-shoot-ing permits were necessary to shoot over the property. When their right to go out was questioned, the accused produced a permit in the name of "David Wilson." Hayes stated in court that a permit had been given to him By Barr, who arranged the shooting party, which included Wilson. This statement was denied by Bnrr, and Wilson stated that he did not know how his permit could come into accused's possession. The defence was reserved.
