LADIES' CONTESTS.
, The Wellington Ladies' Hockey Championships were continued this afternoon. The various games resulted as follow :—: — VICTORIA COLLEGE (5) v. HINEMOA (0). Right from the commencement College were aggressive, but failed, mainly" through ineffective shooting, to score. The red (Hinemoa) forwards secured and took the ball down the field, but the rush was well stopped by the left half (Mibs Gatenby)r aud the ball returned to Miss Tavendale on the right wing, who centred. But nothing came of the effort, and Hinemoa was forced to concede a corner, and it was from this that College scored the first goal. Miss Bissett ■was the successful player. On resumption, some good combined play on both sides was noticeable, but the greens (College) eventually gained the upper hand, and Miss Kerslake 6ent in a beautiful
shot, which evaded the goalkeeper (Miss Isaacs). A great deal of play in Hinemoa's circle followed, and it was some time hefore Miss M'Kenzie hit the ball between the posts. 3—o.3 — 0. The half-tima whistle .sounded soon after. The second spell commenced as the previous one had ended — College attacking strongly When the spell had bef-n in pro gress five minutes the greens once more got to work, and soon the score was raised to four, the goal being hit by , Miss Casey, who later scored again. Mr. ! Faterson was referee. PETONE (5) v. WELLINGTON (1). Petone (5) easily defeated Wellington (1) at Petone. For the victors, Misses Grimshaw (2), Brocklebank (2), and E. Fleet scored, as did Misa Swinday for the losers. Mr. C. A. Smith } was referee. JUNIOR. St. Mark's and and Ramblers played a drawn game, neither side scoring. Victoria College B (2) defeated Hereawa (0). The scorers was Miss M'Kellar (2). Hereawa played one short Physical Training School scored 2 goals against Haeremai (1). For the winners, Misses Barnett and Be Launay scored, and ior the losers, Miss Penney. Hinemoa defaulted to Gregg A. St. John's B (2) beat Greggs B (0). Mr. S. J. Smith carried the whistle. College Old, Girls scored 3 goals against St. John's A, the latter team replying with 2. For the "i Girls," iMis3es Charlesworth, Woodman, and Ol'Eldowney scored. iSliss Grubb did the scoring for the % ' 'Saints." Tho referee was Mr. Kelly. THIRD-CLASS. Roseneath (4) proved victorious over Normal (0). Misses Watt (2), Brown and Sinclair found tho net. Celtic B won from Ramblers - by 2 goals to 0- 'Misses Breen and M. Kenny scored. Mr. M'Kay controlled the B ame - '
