RANGITIKEI ELECTION.

Mr. Hutchison, speaking at Hunterville oil Tuesday night, declared that there should be no taxation on the necessaries of life, in which he included clothing. At the same time, he said, there should be some protection of natural industries. We must endeavour to be self-supporting, and, so far as possible, we must be selfreliant in every meaning of the term. There were several amusing passages between members of Mr. Hutchison's audience and himself. In reply to the question, if returned would he guarantee not to leave the constituency unrepresented as he had before? the candidate said "I give you my word." (A voice : "It's no good, no good.") The candidate: "Well, I don't think my word has ever been doubted before." (Laughter.) A voice: "What about the tenner?" The candidate: "Of course, if I am your member, I will get ifc back. Will any one lend me the sum? There is good security." (Applause.)
