AMERICAN TARIFF.
BRITISH INDUSTRIES NOT SERIOUSLY AFFECTED. A CHECK TO UNDER-VALUING. By Telegraph.— l'resa Association.— Copyright LONDON, 21st July. The new American tariff does not seriously affect British industries, except in so far as it touches cotton and steel manufactures, steel, and some lines of chemicals. Satisfaction is expressed in England that a stop has been put to the ingeni ous methods practised by certain German, Dutch, and Japanese firms, to the detriment of British traders, of undervaluing goods in invoices submitted to the American Customs authorities. This ruse was especially prevalent' in connection with imports of earthenware into America. It is understood that France and Germany are subject to the maximum tariff.
