MINING NEWS.
THAMES DEEP LEVELS. [BY TELEGHAPII — Pttl^S ASSOCIATION.] AUCKLAND, 12th July. The question as to the companies accepting or declining the Government's subsidy of £5000 towards the Thames deep levels scheme is still agitating local mining circles. At a meeting of tho directors of the Saxon Company, ifc was decided that the proper course to adopt would be to accept the subsidy and proceed with the work, according to tho scheme submitted to the Mines Department. From enquiries made, it would appear that the other companies will follow the Saxon Company's attitude. THE ROSS GOLDFIELDS. HOKITIKA, 12th July. The machinery of the Ross Goldfiolds, Ltd., is working smoothly, and it is expected that pumping operations will be commenced next week. To free the mine from water will probably take from one to two months. When this is accomplished fully one hundred men will be employed oi> the deep levels.
