BOXING.
- A CHAMPION APOLOGISES. The Wellington Boxing Association held a meeting last night, Mr. K. -VTViHy presiding. Correspondence, was received from W. H. VVenand, complaining that he had been unfairly treated by the ' Manawatu Association. .Relative to this matter Ivtr. \V. H. Hankins attended the .meeting, and made an explanation, which was endoised by Mr. M. Hogan The cha.r. man jieltl thai nenands 'tttti lonlainecl statements which were not correct, and in the interests of the sport he should withdraw the intimation unread vedly and apologise to Mr. Hankins. Wenand accordingly 'apologised and withdrew hiis letter. Advice was received from Mr. W. F. Corbett, of Sydney, stating that neither Sullivan, M'Uowan, nor Jones could meet Tracy ,in ,the tourney of the 18th, August. Unholz, however, could make tho trip. It was decided that Unholz fhonld meet Tracy. It was agreed lhat W. L. Rudd, provincial heavy-weight champion, would have to' wait until after the tourney to meet Cole or Daw&on. Alfred Gauifc, of Auckland, is to bo given a change to fight up to 9&t 9lb in the September contests. Mr. Laing was appointed manager of the Wellington Learn for Dunedin. A trainer will probably be appointed in Dunedin. Messrs. M'Villy and Coffey will represent the association at the conference of affiliated associations to be held at Dunedin aiter the champions-hips.
