ANGLICAN SYNOD. SUGGESTED NEW DIOCESE. QUESTION SHELVED.

The Anglican Synod resumed its deliberations at 4 p.m. yesterday, Bishop Walhs presiding. The debate on the Rev. J. D. Russell's motion relating to the Church of England Men's Society and the approaching visit of the Hey. H. S. Woollcombe, who is coining to New Zealand as the representative of the society, was rescinded. The motion affirmed the desirableness of welcoming the delegate, and hoped that the visit woidd result in the movement being stimulated. After some 'discussion, in which the Eev. Joshua Jone^ (Hutt) said the organisation of the society was not suitable to some parishes, the motion was adopted. CROFTON CHURCH LANDS. It was agreed, on the motion of tho Rev. E. W. J. M'Connel, to "recommend tlie Diocesan Board of Trustees to take into consideration the advisableness of applying to t,he general synod for leave to sell lot 44 (Crofton), the proceeds to be devoted to the purchase of land to be held on the same conditions of trust as that sold " BROTHERLY INTEREST WANTED Tho Rev. J. E. Blaekburne (Huntervine) moved — "That this synod desires to emphasise the importance of tho clergy and others giving commendatory letters to parishioners moving from one parish to another, and the loss which ensues to the church through the neglect of the same." He said that a more brotherly interest in one another was required. The Re\. J. D. Russell (Petone) seconded the motion, which was carried after being unanimously approved. LAND AT MARTINBOROUGH. ' The last general synod approved of the sale of section 3, Wharekaka [now known as section 38, Waihenga), Martinborough. The proceeds were to be devoted to the purchase of a section adjoining the church section, the object being to acquire a suitable vicarage site. Since then a vicarage site has been given as a gift, and the Synod now approved of an application to the general synod for permission to sell the section in question, the proceeds of sale to be used for the purchase of land \\£hout the restriction that it adjoin tho church site. " SUGGESTED FOURTH DIOCESE. The Rev. C. C. Harper (Palmerston North) moved— (l) That the slight alteration suggested by the General Synod Comiviision between the boundaries of the dioceses of Auckland and Wellington be 'agreed to. (2) That the synod respectfully submit that it reserves for future consideration tha Bishop's sug.gestion that a portion of the endowment of this 'diocese be handed over to the proposed new diocese if it be formed. (5) That this synod considers the question of forming a fourth diocese should be held over for a few years to see what effect the North Islam! Trunk railway will have 'on the distribution of population. '■ . ■ :• ' The Rev. A. W. H. Compton'seconded the motion, which was'-put to the synod in sections, and carried. INSURANCE OF CLERGY. • Mr. R. Wilberfoss moved— "That this synod approve and confirm the ac- • tion of the .Standing Committee in arranging for the insurance of the clergy of this diocese against accident or death by accident." Mr. Sliirtcliffe, in seconding the motion, said he thought the policy was a good one, and ' provided for excellent benefits in cases of accident. He specially referred to the good work done by Mr. Wilberfoss. Captain Hewitt moved, as an amendV meal, that further consideration be postponed until the following day. This, he urged, would give members of the synod lime to assimilate the details of tho policy. . , Mr. J. W. Henderson • seconded the amendment, which was carried. Mr. George Shirtcliffe (Wellington) was re-elected a trustee of the Diocesan Pension Fund. The synod then went into committee to consider the'rep'ort of the Finance Committee, and proposed assessments and appropriations.
