MARKET HIGHLY EXCITED. AUCKLAND, 6th May. Business on the Auckland Stock Exchange opened without much show of excitement this morning, but in the afternoon the mining market became highly excited. As a result the last call was the longest on record (an hour and ten minutes), and the number of transactions greater than at any call for many years past. The two main factors were the developments in the Waihi Grand Junction and Waihi Extended mines, and the not wholly confirmed news that was somewhat freely bruited about that the Thames companies interested in the deep-le\ els scheme had come to an agreement. In mining lines, Waihi Grand Junctions, which closed on the previous day with sellers 45s and buyers 44s 9d, underwent some fluctuations, there being a downward tendency in prices, with a subsequent recovery. At the first two calls sales took place at from 44s to 435, to 43s 6d to 41s 6d. At the last call 975 shares changed hands at from 41s 6d to 43s 6d, to 42s 6d, sellers closing at 42s 9d, with buyers still offering 42s 6d. Grand Junction options sold at 15s 6d. Waihi Extended were done at 5s 4d at the midday call, but later news from the mine regarding the new reef caused a strong run on the shares (the highest offer for which on Wednesday was ss), no fewer than 5300 being disposed of at from 5s 4d to 5s sd, to 5s 4d, to 6s 3d, to 6s 2d, to 6s 6d. Sellers closed at 6s 9d, and buyers at 6s 6d. Other Waihi stocks reflected the improved tone of the market. Waihis sold at £9 4s to £9 4s 6d to £9 4s (no more in demand at £9 4s), and sellers at £9 4s 6d. Talismans (Karangahake) sold at 48s 3d and 48s 6d, with late sellers at 48s 9d, and buyers at 48s 6d. A lot of business was done in Thames stocks at rising rates.
