SCHOOL LIBRARIES.
As a lesult of the visit of Mr. S. Rout, of the Auckland Scripture Gift Association, to this neighbourhood, a very large free distribution of reading matter in wall cards and cottage wall sheets is being made in this city and in countr ylowns. Besides the foregoing, a promise of a gift of from 500 to 600 books, to be divided amongst fifteen or sixteen country day schools, is being made. These schools will be visited by Mr. Rout, who will thus ascertain where the books can be most beneficially placed. Should a school be found •which does not own a library, forty .volumes will be granted towards forming one. Conations are now being solicited by Mr. Rout towards the successful accomplishment of the object. Mr. Rout will be at the People's Palace Hotel, Cuba-streefc, Wellington, until the 28th inst.
A two-story dwelling-house and section of land at Kelburne was sold by auction yesterday by Messrs. Thomson and Brown, the sale price being £1000.,
