NEW ZEALAND'S LIQUOR BILL

COST PER HEAD. [BX TELEGBAPH — PRHSS ASSOCIATION.] CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. The Rev. Edward Walker's annual calculation of New Zealand's drink bill shows that for 1908 the expenditure exceeded 3| millions (£3,751,968), being an increase of £84,586 on the previous year, but a reduction of 4-Ad per head of population. Tne calculation represents a cost to consumers as if all the liquor that passed through the Customs and Excise had been purchased at per gallon rates, and is therefore much under the actual cost.
