At the inquest on James iVloran, whodied from injuries received by a fall from tho roof of a railway carriage on Saturday, t-he evidence showed that the carriage off which deceased fell was locked by a passenger with a pair of scissors. A_ verdict was returned of death from injuries received by falling off a. train. WHANGAREI, Ist March. An old settler, Mr. C. E. Hayw&rd, of Maungakaramea, 14 miles from Whangarei, was found dead on the- road today. Deceased, who was returning home in a. sulky, was evidently taken suddenly ill. He had removed the cushions from tho sulky scat and made his last bed of them by the road-side. NAPIER., lßt March. An elderly man stripped and entered the sea on the town beach at about seven o'clock this evening, «,nd is beKiavecl rto have been drowned. His clothing is marked with, the name Spence. Jt is thought that the man was a resident of Hastings, but the body lias not yet been recovered.
