RIFLE SHOOTING AT GREYTOWN

WELLINGTON COMPETITORS. At Greytown yesterday, the seventeenth annual meeting of the Wairarapa .Rifle Association was held. About ninety competitor went to the mounds, many of them being marksmen who have entered for tue championship meeting at Trentham, aud who are undergoing a preliminary shooting course at Greytown. The competitions will be concluded to-day. Dull weather was experienced yesterday, and the light became very bad as the afternoon woro on. In the Carlerton match, 500 and 600 yards, seven shots at each distance, two "possibles'" were made at the first range : one by Rifleman W. Narbey, of the Duvauchelles Club, and the other by -Rifleman H. Marshall, of Karori Club. They both shot badly at 600 yards, and finished low down on tho prize list. First prize went to Rifleman N. Willoughby, of Te Whaiau (53—34 : 67), Trooper Marenzi, of Eketahuna, coming next with 34—33 : 67, and then Rifleman W. Feast, of Opaki, and Rifleman J. G. Wilson, of Petone, each 66. In the Petone match, ten shots at 700 yards, scores of 44 were made by four competitors, and a count-back gave the places as follows : —Corporal Jones, Wellington, 1; Rifleman King, Opaki, 2; Rifleman Grant, Taradale, 3; Rifleman M'lntosh, Opaki, 4. In the first stage of the Masterton match (200 yards), fired in a failing light, seven 33's were at the head of the scores. Riflemen H. Marshall, Karori, and J. Turner, Petone, were amongst the leaders.
