EXTRA EDITION. SAWMILL DESTROYED.

[BS4 TELEGRAPH — PHES3 ASSOCIATION.] CARTERTON. This Day. Mr. J. Berrills's saw mill at Tewhiti, Gladstone, was destroyed by fire yesterdny. There was no insurance. The damage was estimated at £350. STORM-TOSSED. ROUG>H ENDING OFWHANGAPE"S .VOYAGE. The Union Company's cargo steamer WhangftjJe arrived in port this morning from Ne vvcastle, after a voyage the latter end of which furnished trying and anxious experiences for all on board. She left Newcastle last Saturday night, and the run from The Brothers to port was the most tempestuous in the experience of the officers. At half-past five this morning a huge wave smashed over hey starboard side, rending away and breaking into fragments the butcher's deckhouse amidships. Luckily, the butcher had just left his quarters. A ventilator on deck, was ripped away, benfc liko thin wire, and hurled against the opposite bulwark. Some iron chains which fastened a stack of timber on deck were snapped asunder, and the whole stack loosened. Altogether it was a very lively time — huge seas constantly breaking over her decks till port was made. The Whangapo brought 1600 tons oi cargo, of whjch 600 will be discharged here. On Monday she is to leave fot Lyttelton and Timaru, after which she will in all probability proceed to Dunedin for an overhaul.
