The marriage of the Earl of Granard to Beatrice, daughter of Mr. Ogden Mills, took place to-day, and was an event in New York. The value of the presents is estimated at £100,000. Bernard Arthur William Patrick Hastings Forbes, eighth Earl of Granard, J.P. and Deputy-Lieutenant of County Longford, was born in 1874, and is a Lord-in-Waiting to the King. He was a lieutenant in the Scots Guards in 1899, and became a captain in 1905. In 1900-1-2 he served in South Africa. He owns about 21,d00 acres. Mr. Darius Ogden Mills, father of the bride, is a banker and financier. He founded the bank of D. O. Mills and Co., Sacramento, and was president of the Bank of California for some years. The Wellington Drivers' Union has notified its intention of withdrawing its affiliation to the Wellington Trades and Labour Council at the end of the present quarter.
