Trolle, Swedish Foreign Minister, warmly complimented Professor Rutherford on securing the Nobel prize. Professor Ernest Rutherford, -who was born at Nelson, New Zealand, was appointed . Langworthy Professor ' and Ihrector of Physical Laboratories at Manchester University last year, after a distinguished career in his native country and in America. He- has made valuable discoveries in connection with radium and in other branches of physical science. He was awarded the Nobel prize (about £8000) for chemistry a few weeks ago.
