RIFLE SHOOTING.

FINE WEATHER AT THE BUTTS MATCHES AT TRENTHAM. Riflemen have been singularly favoured by the weather this season. There has 6o far not been a singlo wet Saturday at Trentham. The competitions were resumed on Saturday, when 298 marksmen assembled on the range. The parade I state was as follows : —Post and Telegraph Rifles, 39; Engineers, 28; Kelburne Rifles. 16; Hutt Valley Rifles, 22; Zoalandia Rifles, 32; College Rifles, 14; City Rifles, 26; Karori Rifle Club, 33; D Battery, 15; Guards, 30; Highland Rifles, 31; Permanent Force, 10; Staff, 2; total,' 298. Range duties were carried out by the Hutt Valley Rifles; Lieut. Gibbs (Engineers) was range officer, and Staff-Sergt.-Major Rose, trench officer. Good shooting all round was the order of the day. Private Fisher, of the Civil Service Rifles, put up the possible at 500 I yards, shooting with the Kolburne Rifles. Sergt. Bunckenberg, of tho Zealandias, scored 34 out of 35 at each of tho ranges, 200 and 500 yards. Sergt. Martin, also of the Zealandias. put up 34 at 500. Forlowing are tho details : — j | j ! j j

POST AND TELEGRAPH RIFLES. Sixth match of the competition for the company's belt, Hallenstein Cup, and class trophies: —

HIGHLANDERS. On Saturday the Highlanders continued their trophy shooting at ranges 200 and 600 yards, on the Collins Range. The final shoot of No. 2 competition was got off, the winners being: — A Class—First, Pvt. Eves, 190 points (0); second. Sergt. Marsden, 188 points (0); third, Lance-Corp. Shannon, 186 points (18 points). B Class—First, Pvt. Thompson, 162 points {10 points); second, Pvt. Inglis, 145 points (22 points); third, Sergt. M'Cardle, 138 points (0). The Petone Rifle Club continued their competition for the championship shield and trophies on the Waiwot'u Range on Saturday.
