Barber (G.) ... 2893 Tho voters rallied to the polling booths in almost as strong a force in the second ballot contest for Wellington South as they did at the first encounter. The simplicity of the issue did away with ■ practically all the invalid vote trouble. There wero only iS of the invalid votes yesterday, as opposed to over a hundred last week. The returns arrived quickly, and soon showed a considerable majority for Mr. Wright, who led in every case except at Berhampore and Constable-street. The result was known in less than an hour after the closing of the pulls. The voting was as follows : — (Number on roll, 8322.) Majority for Wright, 563. The voting at the poll on Tuesday, 17th inst., was as follows: — Wright, 2362; Earner, 2617; Chapman, 687; Forbes, 407; Hogg, 237, Murrell, 91; Johnston, 14.
