ENTERTAINMENTS.
THEATRE ROYAL. A fine series of cinematographic films is being exhibited at the Theatre Royal by Messrs. Fuller. "The Devil" and "Tompkins buying a donkey," are frvfo of the cluef novelties presented. Colfyns's Orchestral Band adds much to "the entertaining interest of the performance. THE ROYAL PICTURES. This evening the weekly change of programmes will be made at His.tMajesty's Theatre. The list will be entirely new, and the entertainment promises to be fully equal to previous programmes. - Every type of picture is included in the new series, and every diversity of taste is assured or* being gratified. , PATHE PICTURES. The Pathe Pictures will open at the Opera House to-night, and the company is equipped with all the latest appliances. It is promised that the pictures to be shown will be .entirely new, being the latest productions from the Pathe Studios, Paris, and from the laboratoi'ies of iLondon and Axnerica. They embrace phases of humour, pathos, and sensationalism. A contemporary says : — <f Every animated picture projector that has been billed to appear has been billed as fche 'best,' but without fear of contradiction Pathe Pictures can lay claim to the proud distinction of having the best picture projector exhibited before a local audience. The subjects, too, possessed the pleasing feature of being entirely new. The series of scenes from Gilbert and Sullivan's comic opera, The Mikado,' and from Chas. Gounod's Grand Opera, 'Faust,' some of which were beautifully coloured, were perfection. Solos, duets, choruses, and orchestral effects are presented to the audience, while the stage, production is such as is never seen in the Dominion. The animated effects of theso was considerably heightened by the accompanying songs of the opera'scope, which were rendered in admirable time, with the aGtions pf the figures on the screen." Items of magic and eleight of hand <vill be given by Dr. Rowe and Nadine, the Whits 'Mahatma, will read, blind-folded, questions written by anyone in the audience and retained in their possession throughout the evening. Chief among the specialties will be "a cinematogram of Mr. Harry Lauder,-the great comedian. The box-plan is at the {Dresden. A matinee is advertised for Saturday afternoon. WONDERiLAND. The management of 'Wonderland, Miramar, remind pleasure-seekers that Professor Driscoll will perform his Blondin act to-night,- when he will cross Wonderland Lake on a single wire 40ft above the water, and whilst making his aerial journey to martial strains of the Wonderland Band, tho chute boate will ply underneath him. Flare lights and fireworks will illuminate the f performance, and as an excellent car service from Courtenay-place has been arranged for, a large attendance is anticipated.' THE SCOTCH KILTIES Th© Scotch Kilties will commence a season of four nights and one matinee at the Theatre Royal on Friday evening. The Kilties band* is' forty strong, and in including a flying tour of jSiew Zealand, is just completing what is said to have been a phenomenally successful tour of the world. Besides orchestral selections by the Kilties, the Clan Johnstone troupe give exhibitions of- Scotch and Irish dancing, described by the, northern press- as being a perfect revelation. Then there are the two giant drum-majors, whose exceptional stature knd novelty to a unique entertainment. To date the booking for the ses&on has been brislc, and a successful season is, assured. ' TOWN HALL CONCERT. Haydn. Beck, a boy musical prodigy i from Wanganui, is to make his first appearance in. Wellington this evening, when he will give a violin recital at the Town Hall. Since the age of six he has been a phenomenon among violinists,* and it is intended to devote the profits of the series of recitals to furthering his progress by sending him to Europe for training by the chief masters of the violin in those parts. At to-night's performance he will be supported by local taknt. COMPLIMENTARY CONCERT. Arrangements are proceeding satisfactorily in connection with the compliineatary concert to be tend-ered to Mr. Arthur Ballance at the Town Hall on Thursday of next week*. His Excellency the Governor and party have stated their intention of being present, and the concert is under th& pationage of the Prime Minister and Lady Ward, and the Maj-or and Mrs. Hislon. A splendid programme is being arranged. The box plan is now open at the Dresden PianoCompany. ■IRCH'S PICTURES. Arch's moving pictures will be exhibited at St. Thomas's Hall, Newtown, on Monday. The pictures will include a magnificent Holy Land series ; also "A Ride Through Switzerland," and numerous comedy pictures. The programme will be entirely new, and shown through a non-flickering lantern.
