The Department of Industries and Commorco has received the following cable from tho High Commissioner, dated London, 21st November, 1908: — The mutton market is depressed, and there is a dull sale for all qualities. Trade is very disappointing, there being only a very hand-to-mouth demand. Tho following arc tho current quotations: — Dutoh mutton, 4d ; River Plate (which is in largo supply), 3|d; Canterbury, 33d; North Island, 3^d per lb. The lamb market is \cry dull, and domand has considerably" fallen off. Stocks of New Zealand lamb on hand are light, and are firmly hold in few hands. Canterbury lamb is quoted at s£d, and other | than Canterbury at 5d per lb. The beef market has collapsed. Supplies of River Plato chilled beef are heavy, and are soiling at lower prices than frozen. New Zealand hindquarters aro quoted afc 3id, forequarters at 3jjd per lb. The butter market is temporarily depressed; large buyers have withdrawn from tho market, and prices have declined. The supply excecda the demand. Current quotations are as follow: — Choicest New Zealand, 116s; Australian, 114s; Danish, 1245; Siberian, 110s; Argentine, 114s per cwt. Tho cheeae market is quiet but firm, Canadian makes being quoted at 61s per cwt. The hemp market is quiet, with a tendonoy in favour of buyers. Last week's Manila output amounted to 18,000 bales. j Tho cocksfoot seed market is dull. Tho hop market is firm, with an upi ward tendency. There is a much better demand for best quality. Messrs. Dalgety and Company, Limited, Wellington,' have received the following messages from their London house, dated 21st instant: — Wool. — As compared with the closing rates of September series we expect a rise in prices for the ensuing series of fully 5 per cent, for merinos and 5 per cent, to 10 per cent, for crossbreds. Hides. — Prices in general are id to id higher.
