In response to a letter trom the Government Insurance Department requesting advice as to the present position ol the council's further gas loan of J34500, it was decided on the motion, of Councillor Baldwin to reply that the council at present- had no netd of the. money. Dr. Frengley, on behalf of the Public Health Department, reported that the outlet drains of Mr. Jacob's house, Knights-road, was not connected with the drains in the street, and recommended that connection should be made. After some discussion the council decided to take action against the agents. Mr. Thos. P. Allen, farmer, Waiwetu, applied m person for a readjustment ol ihis rates, as it had beei| shown on recent survey that he really had four acres less than he was credited with possessing under ths old original survey of 1852. He had paid rates on that area, since 1874. The Land Tax Department on representation had consented to a readjustment as to land tax on unimproved value, and were prepared to return the excess tax for the past three years. After some discussion, in which it was suggested that the mistake had been made on the original survey, the council decided on the motion of Councillor Russell to give the matter further consideration and send its decision to Mr. Allen later.
