Northern Union, won by the Australians by 10 points to 9, Devereux scored : early, but Messenger failed to convert, and the Northerners shortly afterwards equalised matter*. Fierce play followed until the Northerners were penalised, enabling Messenger to kick a goal. Holloway then secured a try, but Messen- , ger's shot at goal failed. In the second spell the Northerners, despite the fact that they were playing two men short, owing to injuries, scored twp tries, but just upon time Messenger kicked another penalty goal. AMATEURS v. OXFORD. | LOXDON, 19tJi November. In their match against Oxford the "Wallabies" team (which won by 19 points to 3) included Burge and Gavin, who were sent from New South Wales to take the places of men injured dur ing the tour. The ground was in. good order and play was excellent. After twenty-three minutes, Hickey obtained a try, but Carmichael failed to convert. Just on half-time, however, Carmichael kicked a penalty goal. On i-esuming, the "Wallabies" outplayed the University, particularly in the outside division. Prentice, M'Kivatt, and Russell scoring tries, of which Carmichael,converted two. Vassall, for Oxford, " secured a try in the last minute.
