PAPER PULP.

EXPERIMENTS AT WASHINGTON VERT SATISFACTORY. THE USE OF MAIZE STRAW. By Telegraph.— Press Association .—Copyright. jßeceived October 19, 9 a.m.) LONDON, 18th October. The Times' Washington correspondent reports that the United States Agricultural Department has made experiments which show that the use of maize straw for the purpose of making paper pulp have proved satisfactory. It is improbable that maize straw pulp will oust wood, but it may check -a further rise in the price of paper. The matter of finding other materials beside wood pulp from which, paper may be made is one of considerable moment, and any success in that direction will be hailed with pleasure by those who are considerable consumers. Sugar cane has been experimented with and given fair results, but the paper produced is of the coarse variety.
