Mr. George Gilbert Aime Murray has been appointed Regius Professor of Greek at Oxford University. Mr. Murray, M.A. Oxford, LL.D. Glasgow, was born in Sydney, New South Wales, in 1866, being third son of the late Sir Terence Aubrey Murray, one time President of the Legislative Council of New South Wales. He left Australia at the age of 11, and was educated at the Merchant Taylors' School, London, and St. John's College, Oxford. He became a Fellow of New College, Oxford, in 1888, and was Professor of Greek at Glasgow University from 1889 to 1899. His publications include " History of Ancient Greek Literature," " Carlyon Sahib," and "Andromache" (both plays, published and acted), "Liberalism and the Empire" (part author), "Euripides Fabulas," "Euripides" (verse translations), " Hippoiytus," "Trojan Women," "Rise of the Greek Epic," etc. He was married in 1889 to Mary, eldest daughter ol the Earl of Carlisle.
