INDUSTRIAL ASSOCIATION. ANNUAL MEETING.
The annual meeting of the Wellington Industrial Association was held "last niglit, Mr. F. C. Crease presiding. In the annual report congratulatory reference was made to the fact that since last year Messrs. Price Brothers, of Thames and Auckland, had successfully built more railway locomotives to the order of the New Zealand Government. S. uLke and Co.", Ltd., and W. Cable and Co. were also to be congratulatea for having each manufactured .so successfully a large Lancashire boiler for the Wellington City Council's tramway power house. They were the largest boilers ever made in the Dominion, being 30 feet long, 8 feet in diameter, and weighing each 30 tons. They, stood most successively the test placed upon them — a cold water pressure of 320 pounds to the square inch. Satisfaction was expressed because the longdiscussed matter of a new site for the Wellington Technical School was now at an end, and that the overcrowding in the present school would be overcome. An important event in the history of the Dominion (continued the report) has been the completion of the railway through to Auckland. The General Committee of the Association considers that it should be represented at the formal opening of the line, and v letter_ has been sent to v the Minister for Railways,' the Hon. W. Hall- Jones, to which a reply has been received, stating that there still remains a good deal of finishing-up work to be completed. The Minister is unable to state at present th& definite date on which the opening function will take place, but he will notify the secretary as soon as he is able, at j the same time giving particulars of the programme. , Tho balance-sheet showed assets to tailing £213 12s 4d, made up of £112 9s 8d on fixed deposit, £42 11s lid cash at bank, £23 2s, subscriptions outstanding, and £35 8s 9d ofSce furniture. The liabilities were : sundry creditors £8 6fs 8d ; and "accumulated funds" (inclusive of £2 13s 4d excess of income over expenditure for one year), £205 5s Bd. The election of officers resulted as follows: — President, Mr. A. W. Newton ; vice-presidents, Messrs. £. Bull and S. S. Williams ; treasurer, My' Hardie Shaw; auditors, Messrs. J.(S. Barton and W. C. Stephens ; general committee, Messrs. S. Brke, T. Ballinger, V. C. Crease, C. Palliser, J. P. Luke, W. M'Lay, F. Hodgson, H. Read. G Norton, Alister Brown, John Smith, C. E. Carter, H. H. SeatoD, G. Winder, L. R. Partridge, R. Tomline, E. D. Howarth, A. Ross, T). Robertson, W. Cable, W. Crabtree, G. Luke, A. I). Riley, the president of the Builders' Association, and association executive officers. . <- On the motion of Mr. Ballinger, so conded by Mr. Creas"e, it was resolved that the usual donation of £25 be made to the Technical School, which sum entities the association to representation on tne Tecnnical School Board. It was resolved to recommend the incoming committee to consider the question of organising a social evening. A hea\ty vote of thanks to tho retiring president and secretary concluded the meeting.
