LANDS FOR SETTLEMENT.
[BT TELEOBAnt. — PBE3B X3BOOIATIOH.J DUNEDIN, This Day. At Balclutha yesterday a deputation waited on the Hon. B. 31' Nab with a request that the Government should acquire Clifton and Otanomomo estates for closer settlement. Tho former estate comprises 15,675 acres, and the latter 6406 acres. The deputation stated that Clifton would settle from 70 to 80 farmers, while Otanomomo . would provide ■land for about 36. The Minister admitted there was a very keen demand for land in the south. He said the chairman of the Land Purchase Board y?aß at present in the South Island looking at a number of properties under offer. He would communicate with him at pnee and get him to view the Clifton estate. The Minister subsequently proCeedecJ to Tuapeka. AN "ARGYLL" TESTIMONIAL.
