A MAORI NEWSPAPER.
[By Teleghafh. — Special to The Post.] AUCKLAND, This Day. ! The question of running a Maori ! newspaper caused a good deal of discus- | sion at tho Te Aute Association Conference. One speaker pointed out that 1 European newspapers could not reach , the mass of the .Maori population and I that it was a necessary to have a paper which would combine interest with utility. Many speakers spoke approvingly oi tho plan, but it was generally agreed I that the existing Maori paper, the Pipiwharauroa, which was under tha control of the association, should bo taken in hand, enlarged and filled with subjects tlsa.fc would bo of general interest to all tho Maori people. The Rev. F. Bennett 1 said that ■ho was instrumental Y in the founding of the Pipiwharauroa. At that time thero were many rival papers in the field. Now the Pipiwharauroa alono was left, and it remained with tho association to make that tho ono Maori paper, and to eliminate matter which was of purely local interest, thereby making it acceptable to all the tribes. Mr. To Wheora then put forward a motion, which was seconded and carried, to the effect that tho Pipiwharauroa be tnado the standard Maori paper,
