Entries for the Wellington Amateur Swimming Club's thirteenth annual carnival, which takes place at Te Aro baths,on Saturday next, closed on Tuesday. Swimmers havo responded well, "with tho result that the entries are quito up to those of any previous season. The Ladies' Bracelet handicap tops tho list as regards the number of entrants. The baths of tho city present a very lively scene after five o'clock just now, swimmers being in active-train-ing for this carnival. Complete arrangements are being made for patrons of the sport, and afternoon tea will be served. A band will be in attendance. Several visiting swimmers will compete in the carnival, amongst whom will be the Hegglun brothers. The racing will be got, of! sharp to time, and competitors will do well to note tho heat in which they are placed, in order that they may be ready to take up their positions as soon as tho preceding heat is over. The club's handicappers (Messrs. Sadd and Somerville) are now busy with tho entries, and it is hoped that they will be able to declare the handicaps on Friday.
