KARORI BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The ordinary meeting of the Karori Borough Council was held last evening. Present : Councillors Murdoch (in tho chair), Wedde, Smith, Cathie, Spiers, Lissington, Hammond, Clarke, and Putnam. MeEsrs Benjamin Smith and Co. wrote accepting the council's offer of £20 in settlement of the claim for rent of Bell's quarry. The Wellington Town Clerk intimated that, in response to a request from tbe Karori Council, asking tho city corporation to set up a small committee to deal with tho question of amalgamation, the Finance Committee had been appointed by tho City Council to deal with tho matter. A communication was received from the City Engineer. Mr. Morton, to the offecb that subsidence had taken place in several places along the Karori iram track. Tho work of repair was urgently needed and the estimated cost w«9 £109. In reply to a letter from the borough referring to the estimate for tho work, tho Town Clerk Etatcd that it was not a matter for which tho city was liable. Ib was further statt>d that tho trouble was urgent, and that tho engineer was taking tho mattor in hand_ at once. Several councillors were of opinion that the borough should bo consulted before, an increased expenditure wns undertaken. A motion was passed to tho effect that the borough was not liablo for tho expenditure m question A deputation, consisting of Mrs. Do Costa and Mr. T. Ward, waited on the council regarding roads through the land formerly owned by the Bell family, and particularly with regard to the approach road from the main road to connect with Wallaco-stroet. It was stated that the regulations set out by the council for this work would bo exceedingly expensive Concession?, especially in tho specified width of road, were asked for. Councillors promised to look into tho matter. On tho recommendation of the Financo Committee, Mr. Cyril Daseut was appointed to represent the council in the Aesessment Court in connection with the revaluation of tho borough. In reference to the proposals for an increased tram service to Karori, the tramways and electrical engineer, Mr. Stuart Richardson, intimated that arrangements could bo made for a lato car every evening, and for additional oars on Saturdays bel\^con_ noon and 9 p.m. It was also stated that 'tno time of doparturo of the lato car on Wednosdaya and Saturdays varied with the closing timo of the Opera Houso. This arrangement, was considered unsatisfactory for intending passengers, and it wa? suggested to Ilhe council that a fixed time of departure both from Newtown and Government station be decided upon. It was further Fuggestcd that tho late car should leave Newtown nt 10 40 p.m. and , Government station at 11.5. On tho return .journey the oar would leavo Karori at 11.25 p.m. and roach Newtown at 12.15 a.m. Double fares would bo collected on these late cars to Karori, and thfi borough would be charged double mileage. It was decided to accept the siiorgestion in regard to. tho late cars. Councillor Lissinglon moved lhat single farps only be charged on the late cars. He did not think it ripht that a resident cominor home late should be compelled to pay doublo fares. The motion was lost.
