ELECTRIC LIGHT STATION. THE EXTENSION CONTRACT.
LIST OF TENDERERS. The extensive additions to be made to the electric light station in Mercer and Harris streets, acquired by the City Corporation last year froa> tho Electrical Syndicate, are now in the initial stage of being carried out. The contractors for the work (Messrs. Mace and Nicholson) have made a beginning with ground clearing operations on the Mercer-stieat frontage, and the installation of a new }3abcock boiler has b&cn completed by the electrical staff, in readiness for being built over by the contractors. Tho tenders for the work 0/ extending the building were exceptionally closs, there being a variation of very little more than ono thousands pounds between tho highest and lowest. Eight firms competed, and the nrices submitted wero as follows : — Mjlcb and Nicholson (accepted), £9946. James Tievor and Sons, £10,122. {}. Garnor, £10,143. Campbell and Burke, £10,550. U'Lean and Gray, £10,695 15s. Mitchell and King, £10,733. James Russell, £10.955. Sanders Brothers, £10,098.
