NOXIOUS TRADES REGULATION.
* — r— NEW PETONE BY-LAW. The Petone Borough Council held a special meeting on Friday night to pass a new by-law. * There were present ( ihe Mayor (Mr. J. W. M'Ewan), and Councillors Castle, Colquhoun, Lodder, Nicholson, Short, and Southgate. Tho Mayor moved, and, Councillor Southgate, seconded, the adoption by way of special order of a set of by-laws following upon the agreement with the Gear Company granting it permission to remove its manure works and erect and carry on the manufacture of manures, etc.; adjaqent to the main works. Tho by-law is composed of twelve clauses, which define cleanliness in working and proper drainage, and v the moderation of noxious smalls. It is stipulated that all buildings intended to be erected for tho purpose of catrying on any of the offensive trades shall b^ constructed o£ brick and cpnereto and shall, be 'properly, plastered where necessary. ■ Plans and< specification? of all such buildings shall be- .submitted to the council and District Health' Officer for (approval. Tho by-law also contains a clause which sets out that in event, of the lands upon which. tho manure and, .other/a^ied, JXsrX&oj^.tlia Gear .Meat Preserving and" ' freezing Company, Limited, are at present established being -added "to* the "Bordugh of j Petono before the company shall- have transferred the business there carried on to the new works to b& erected in tho borough, these by-laws snail nob .apply to such businesses so long as they shall.' be carried on uDon,,tliese lands. . .
