HOBART ATHLETIC MEETING.
t> NEW ZEALAND TEAM PICKED. Afc the smoke concert given to the visiting athletes and officials in the Oddfellows' Hall on Saturday evening, Messrs. H. G. Green and H. S. Batchelor (two of the selectors of the New Zealand team to compete at the Australasian championship meeting to be held in Hobart) announced thafc they had discussed tho qualifications of the most likely men. Unfortunately, Mr. J. R. Olliver, the. other selector, had been unable to be present. They were of opinion that the following four men should be sent : — ' • Harry Henderson, Wellington. W. F. Trembath, Southland. C. L. Oibell, Canterbury. H. St. A. Murray, Canterbury. Th9y had a doubt as to whether L. M'Kay (of Wellington), P. H. Stubberfield (Canterbury), chould be chosen for the fifth place/ Mr. Green, who made this announcement., said if the Wellington centre would subscribe £6 10s he saw a way out of the difficulty. The council would provide the other £6 10s and both men would be sent. Dr. Newman, who presided, said if it was only a matter of £6 10s, M'Kay would go (applauso). Tho team, has nob been definitely chosen bul it is unlikely that Mr. Olliver's opinions will result- in a change, as fche decision come to by the other two selectors was a majority one. The feolection does hot meet with whole-hearted approval here. Surprise is expressed at the fact that Wellington, aftef winning ths majority of the championship events, should have got only one representative in the team. < THE SMOKE CONCERT. Dr. Newman, presided at the smoke concert- to the visitors*, officials and competitors. A lengthy toast list was honoured and the champions were warmly applauded when they received their medals.
