WHARF WORKERS.
DEMAND FOR HIGHER WAGES. The award of the Wellington Wharf Labourers' Industrial Union of Workers having expired a fresh set of demands has been drawn, up, and will be enquired into by the Conciliation xioard on 12th February at> 10.30 in the Supremo Court. Several changes in conditions of working are domanded, and in some directions increases of pay. A highei rate is demanded for the handling of cement, lime, manure, and diale ; fcha rates asked, with ruling rates in parentheses, being Is 6d (Is 3d) per hour and 2s 6d (2s Id) per hour overtime ; handling' coal, Is 6d (Is 4d) per hour, 2s 6d (2s Id) per hour overtime; trimming coal in all ships 'tween decks and thips holds and bunks, Is 6d and 2s 6d small ships, i.e., all ships to be worked at rates prevailing, in intercolonial vessels ; handling 1 frozen produce in freezing chambers aboard ship, 2s (Is 6d) per hour, 3s (2s 6d) per hour overtime. It is thought, that the Union s.s. Co. and the Wellington Harbour Board should pay wages weakly on Fridays, and other lines on Satur-' days or their recognised pay days. Turnbull and Co., Wellington Steam Packet Co., Gannaway and Co.,sWestport Coal Co., Ltd; Wellington Steam Ferry Co., Ltd ; Shaw, Savill, and Albion Co., <Ltd ; ' the New 'Zealand Shipping Co., Ltd ; Jno. Mill and Co., Matthew Segrief, David Long, the Gear Meat Preserving and Freezing Co. of New Zealand, Ltd ; the Tyser Lino, Ltd (Napier) ; W. M. Bannafcyne and Co., Ltd ; New Zealand and African Steam Ship Co., Ltd; and the Patea Shipping Co.; Ltd.
