■<» ■ PROGRESS OF DRAINAGE WORK. [Br Telegbaph. — Special to The Post.] AUCKLAND, This Day. Tho drainage works on the Piako swamp, according to a statement mado to a Herald representative by the Hon. R. M'Nab, at Hamilton, are progressing steadily and satisfactorily. Mr. Kensington, Under-Seceretary for Lands, who had lately visited the works, had reported that good progress was being mado. ' The present operations would affect some 75,000 or 80,000 acres, arid as yet the work was confined to only one side of the river bend. Speaking in regard lo the disposal of the land, Mr. M'Nab said that the Government would n<Jt bo in too gi'eat a hurry in geeting rid of it. They would not make the mistake of placing it on the market before the public realised tho value of it, and thus allow of people buying and re-selling at a huge profit to reap the advantage of the Government's enterprise.
