The Bishop of Waiapu left for the South last night. Mr. JMoekler, of Nelson, has been appointed conductor of the Napier Battalion Band. Mr. J. F. Arnold, M.P, for Dunedin South, is in Wellington on business connected with his constituency. The Inspector General- of the FoTces (Col. Davies) is due in Wellington from Auckland on the 10th February. The Government Biologist (Mr. T. W. Kirk) went to Lyttelton by the Maori last night, and will probably go on to Dunedin before returning to Wellington. Mr. R. Martin, Opposition organiser, intends to make Palmerston North his headquarters, and removes there from Auckland at an. early date, telegraphs our Palmcrston correspondent. A telegram tfrom Auckland states all the foreign consuls and a number of citizens called upon the German Consul (Mr. Carl Seegner) yesterday to offer their congratulations on the anniversary of the birthday of tho German Emperor. The Kaiser was born in 1859 , Our Palmerston North correspondent telegraphs : — Sisters Mary Calumba, Mary Placedus and Birchmans, of Wellington, will replace Sisters Frances, Augustine and Bertrand, transferred from the Palmerston Convent of Mercy to St. Mary's Convent, Wellington, and the Nowtown Convent. The Bishop of Wellington (the Right Rev. Dr. Wallis), went .South last night to attend- the Anglican Episcopal Conference at Christchurch, which commences to-naorrow. With the exception of Bishop Julius, of Christchurch, all the bishops will leave for England in a few weeks to attend the Lambeth Conference. Mr. E. Rawson, cleTk of the Masterton Court, has been appointed Stipendiary Magistrate and Warden at Westport, where the growth of business has made the presence of a third magistrate necessary. Mr. Rawson has had twenty-eight years' experience in the Justice Department and is a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court. The Rev. J. G. S. Bartlett will be entertained by the parishioners of St. Mark's Church at a farewoll "Social" .where, as a token of their appreciation of 'his services, he will l>e presented with a purse of sovereigns. Mr. Bartlett, who for the past year has been virtually in charge of the parish, leaves for his new sphere at Oamaru on the 18th February. Acting-Detective Cameron, of Wellington, is to do duty in Christchurch during the absence in England of Detective Kennedy and Acting Detective Ede, who are under orders to proceed to London to give evidence in connection with the charge of perjury against Miss Robertson, a witness m the Druce case. They will leave Wellington by the Athenic on Thursday next. A Press Association telegram from Oarnaru states that Mr. Turton, S.M., was "farewelled" by the local bar this morning. Mr. Newton, on behalf of the profession, oppressed regret at the departure of Mr. Turton, who leaves for his new district on the West Coast at the end of the week. Mr. Hutcheson, S.M., assumes his duties at Oamaru tomorrow. The Rev. Father Goggan announced at the morning service in St. Patrick's Church on Sunday (says the Hawkes Bay Herald) that he is about to leave the Napier parish to take up tho position of vice-rector of St. Patrick's College, Wellington. li> was to fill that post that Father Goggan came to New Zealand, but the state of his health necessitated his removal from the city to ■the country. He leaves for Wellington on Monday next, but will return a week [ later for a few days to make some final I arrangements. The name of his successor has not yet transpired.
