ENTERTAINMENTS. THEATRE ROYAL.

There was a patron's form in every seat at the Theatre Royal last night, where a strong vaudeville company is appearing under the flag of the" Fullers'. Rammon and Wyatt took the public fancy with a comic duet* while- Mr. A. L. Cropp's basso songs also met with approval. Fred Garnett, "the dummy clown," performed iv an amusing aird clever manner, while' -the Ahlbsvgs, Nellie Maher, Ida Borridge, Eibel, George Sturm, and-Ilariy Linden all earned the hearty approval that wa3 given them by their auditors. 1118 MAJESTY'S THEATRE. Mr. Howard Vernon and' Company had a successful performance last night. "Rip Van Winkle" was substituted for "A Trip to Chinatown," and although there was but a moderate audience, those found plenty oi good work upon which to bestow their applause. Mr. Vernon took the part of Rip, and his interpretation of the idle, dissolute young man was an excellent piece' of characterisation. Miss Vinia De Loi'tte took the part of Rip Van Winkle's wife, and played it well. Several pretty little lyrics were introduced, which Miss Do Loitte sang in good style. Miss Vance showed to advantage in the role of Derrick Van Slavs, and her singing of "By tho Side of the Zuyder Zeergreatly pleassd tho audience. . . ALLAN HAMILTON'S COMPANY. The large audience' at the Opera House last evening seamed to fully appreciate the play, tho "Message ..from Mars." It speaks much fpr the versatility of tho company that they should timi from their succcne-ful performance of a sentimental melodrama like "Home, Sweet, Homo" to an equal success" in. the fantastic comedy of .''A.' Message from Mars." f To-night is the last .performance o£ 'the present piece. To-mor-row "Little Lord Fauntlorpy" will be played, with Baby Watson in the title part, Mr. . An enjoyable relaxation fjom ' the heat and bustle of the, city was provided' by the Ferry Company last evening running an excursion to Day's Bay. During ths run across 'the harbour the excursionists were' entertained by a programme of music, whilst at the Bay such attractions as shooting the chut* provided an interesting -diversion. The 'surroundings of the Bay piescnted a picturesque ' appoarance, with uas. illuminations, and tho trees in the vicinity of tho pavilion decorated with Japanese lanterns. , .-. MISSIONS TO SEAMEN. Thero was a large audience- at ths Missions to Seataen Institute last night, when a concert' was given by Mr. and Mrs. C. P. Pow'les. The following contributed items : — Violin solos by Mr. H. Atkinson and. Mrs. Tombs; songs by Miss E. Hursthouse and Mr. Hollis, and by' Mr. Campbell (Mamari), accompanied by Mr. Sc.well (Mamarai)', and a flute solo by Mr. C. Gore. The accompanists were Misses Rothchild and Hursthouse. • During an interval th© chairman (Mr. Moore) gave a temper- ■ ance' address, entitled '"Dropping tho .Pilot," which resulted, in'' several pledges bejng taken. 'Conundrum competition prizes went to" sailors in'- port. A .hearty vote of thanks was ajicorded tha performers. "Wonderland" continues to draw large crowds to the suburb of -Miramar every day. v The attractions at "the ! Mecca of merry souls" are many and varied. A successful fete was held in the Ass'cmbly Hall. Island Bay, yesterday afternoon for tho purpose of reducing a debt of £300 on St. Hilda's churchroom. The proceedings were opened by Mrs. T W. Hislop. " In the evcniiur a programme of music was provided. Thia afternoon Mrs. T. C. Wiiliams wi\l be present. To-night, at the Butin 'Reserve,' the Mission Band will play a programme oj music.
