0 1 THE BANK TO BANK TROUBLE. [BY TrtEGKAPn. — 7'RESS ASSOCIATION' ] WESTPORT, 4th December. The Atbltration Coavt coinnlelod a two days' sitting hero to-day. In tho case of Freak Cullen v. the Wostport Coal' Company, a claim for £300 ior alleged permanent injury, £160 having been paid, tho court allowed £120 in a lump sum to complete the payments. In tho case Emily Lceco v. the Westport Coal Company, a claim for £400 for the death of claimant's husband, tho court made an order that one-third of that sum be paid to ths widow, and the remainder be placed in the hands of tho Public Trustee to adnlinistcr for the widow and family. The Inspector of Awards applied for enforcement of award compelling the' Wcstport Coal Company to pay a driver in charge of an air compressor 11s a clay instead of 10s, as paid by the company. The claim was practically one of interpretation. Decision was reserved. In Donniston Conlmincrs' Union v. Wostport Coal Company, alleged breach of award for failing to pay 3d extra for false or bad roof, tho company agreed to pay the extra rate. The Mokihinui Mincis' Union and the 'Seddonvillo State Mine appliqd for an award. After several confcronc.es, a settlement was amicably agreed to, and tho • court will bo asked to make an award accordingly. The Gnuiily Miners' Union applied for a new award. After hearing evidence on a number of disputed points, tho court reserved its decision. In tho case Westport Coal Company v. Denniston Miners' Union, alleged breach of award, the mineis deciding lo work only eight hours from bank to bank, tho court ruled that underground workers had to work eight hours at Ihe working face, the miners being entitled to 8d per hour per shift where their wages aro 9s or over per day, 6d where 6s. and 2d whero less than 6s per day, for travelling time. The court had hot yet decided what order it should make in. the uitttt.er.
