Justice Cooper heard argument yesterday afternoon on an appeal by George Pinnock, proprietor of the Ttocadero, against a d-ecisxon of Dr. M'Arthur S.M., fining him £2 and costs for having failed to allow five female assistants a weekly half-holiday as provided by the Shops and Oftices Act, 1904, and its amendments. It was contended that tha defendant's establishment did not coma within the meaning of tho Act, that the persons named in tho information wera not shop assistants, and that the word "exclusively" referred to in section 15.i (1) of the ' Shops and Oflices Act, 1904, exempted tha defendant fiom the "provisions of the statute.
